Kick-Off Her Best Summer Yet With GSSC

June 20, 2023
Start Her Summer Story at Camp Edey!

Splash into summer with the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County's Summer Camp at Camp Edey, starting June 26, and ending August 25, for nine weekly sessions of fun. At Girl Scouts Summer Camp, girls make new friends and explore nature with our excellent camp staff's guidance, who support them along the way.

Summer Camp at Camp Edey also helps the girls unplug from the “world of screens,” smartphones, laptops, and tablets that have become a big part of everyday life. Camp comprises the physical- the outdoor spaces, the team-building nature of our activities, and the welcoming environment that we work hard to create. Our camp has many different activities for the girls, with two pools, an archery range, a gaga ball pit, a disc golf course, hiking trails, and even a frog-friendly pond. We also have programs the girls will love, like scavenger hunts, outdoor sports, amazing weekly themes, and STEM + Art activities in a safe and fun environment that brings out her sense of adventure.

The Camp Edey team has been busy ensuring your girl has the best summer ever, which means even more activities for her to enjoy.

NEW This Year!
  • Gigantagames: This one is going to be BIG! New fun and interactive games with colorful and lightweight balls that range from 3 ft to 6 ft in diameter! Gigantagames are a great way to stay active and learn team-building skills, and they might be her new favorite thing this summer—no athletic ability is needed. The campers will have an opportunity to enjoy these games 2x a week.
  • Camper Car Wash: A new way to stay cool at camp, this water mister activity is perfect for those extra hot days.  We know this will be a favorite for our youngest campers.
  • Paddleboards (4th Grade and Up): What’s better than some time on the lake? Time on the lake with 7 of your best friends! New stand-up paddleboards are here for our older campers and will hold up to 8 campers and one counselor at a time.

Already secured her spot at camp this summer? Check out our website for the latest details on our new bus routes. Follow us on social media for the latest updates and access our photo albums.

And to ensure your camper (and yourself) are ready to go, we’re adding weekly virtual parent meetings where our team will give you the information you need and be available to answer your questions. Meetings will be held every Thursday from 6:30-7:30 pm starting June 22nd. Important information about the upcoming week will be shared, including drop-off and pick-up procedures, bus information, what to bring to camp each day, and what NOT to bring.

NEW Summer Programs at Council

Summer programs are back at Girl Scouts of Suffolk County with the perfect blend of learning, new experiences, and fun. Girls can explore the night sky, share their stories through art, or take a crash course in outdoor survival skills. There’s something for everyone, with programs for older girls, like College Cooking & Dorm Décor and Edible Summer Science for Daisies & Brownies. And we’re ending the summer with a Fun Patch Festival, where she can spend the day completing activities and collecting her favorite fun patches.

Summer Programs are a great way to add new skills if her troop takes a break while school is out.  To find a complete list of programs, visit our website or view our online event calendar.

Girl Scouts Love the Outdoor Challenge

Summer fun in the great outdoors doesn’t just stop there. The Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge has returned with more ways for your Girl Scout to be her most “out there” self. You don’t need to go to a national park or the woods to enjoy the outdoors or to complete this fun challenge. Spending time outside is good for her health and well-being, whether working on her rock-climbing skills or making a splash in the puddles in her neighborhood.

There are free activity sheets for download to help her see what’s possible right outside her front door. Girls can unlock a patch that will show off to the world they put themselves out there.

If she’s feeling inspired, she can do even more with the Girl Scout Climate Challenge, Girl Scout Tree Promise, Girl Scout Wellness Activities, and more.

This year really is our best summer yet, and we’re so excited to share it with you. Being outdoors allows us to nourish ourselves without distraction. And we know it’s vital to her physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Now more than ever, girls need outdoor opportunities to relax and reduce stress and tension. And our outdoor programming is designed to give her a safe space to grow and build confidence. We hope you start your summer with some of our GSSC programs and experiences. There’s no right or wrong way to be in nature, so whether your fingernails are painted or chipped with dirt under them, this summer, the outdoors is a place for Girl Scouts!
