Girl Scouts of Suffolk County will be joining Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York for Advocacy Day at the Capitol, sponsored by Mary Beth Walsh. The event will take place in the Well of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in Albany.

All Girl Scouts and adults must bring a bagged lunch and a water bottle or other beverage. Lunch will take place from 12:45-1:30 PM in the LOB Well. There will not be enough time to purchase food at the Plaza Concourse.

Planned Activities Include
-Welcome and opening remarks by Brenda Episicopo, CEO of GSNENY
-Remarks from Assemblywoman Walsh on the importance of advocacy, using your voice, and how the Assembly represents its constituents
-Introductions to Assembly and Senate members joining the group in the morning
-Advocacy and lobbying overview with Katherine Nadeau, who works in the Capitol
-Lunch, SWAPs, and sisterhood time with Girl Scouts from across the state
-Photos with Assembly and Senate members on the Assembly Staircase and Assembly Floor
-Attendance at the Assembly Session from the balcony, including recognition by the Assembly and a firsthand look at how state government works

Important Information for Suffolk County Girl Scouts
-This is NOT a drop-off event for Brownies and Juniors; they must attend with a Troop Leader or Caregiver
-Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors may attend independently; GSSC staff will provide chaperoning
-All participating girls may request a letter verifying attendance on a GSSC educational field trip for an excused school absence
-A minimum of 30 registrants is required for the trip to run; if this number is not met, all payments will be refunded
-Transportation will be provided by coach bus
-Departure: 5:00 AM from the Commack Office (442 Moreland Rd, Commack, NY 11725)
Bus ride: Approximately 3-4 hours each way
Return: Bus will load at 2:45 PM and is expected to return by approximately 7:00 PM
Please note: We cannot wait for late arrivals
-GSSC will handle registration for Suffolk scouts riding the bus. There is no need to register separately with GSNENY
