Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) is excited to launch a new older girl program for Juniors and above, who love Girl Scouts and aren’t afraid to be in front of the camera. Our media girls will create videos, interview with local media, and develop their public speaking and photography skills. There are so many reasons to be a Girl Scout. Girl Scouts promotes courage, confidence, and character and helps girls meet new friends and gain new experiences. In Girl Scouts, girls learn leadership, social, and entrepreneurial skills to help them dream big and succeed. Girl Scouts support their community and do lasting take actions projects that make a difference. Girl Scouts can change the world. But graduating from high school and turning 18 doesn’t mean an end to the adventures.

Summer camp registration has begun here at GSSC, and we are excited to provide awesome opportunities and activities for your Girl Scout this summer! Whether she is exploring the outdoors on a tour of our hiking trails, cooling off in our two large pools, or focusing her skills on the archery range, Camp Edey is a great place to start her adventure.

Did you know Women’s History Month started as “Women’s History Week,” a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California? Organizers from the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. They planned the celebration to include March 8, to correspond with International Women’s Day. By the following year, Women’s History Week was honored in communities all across the country

Did you know that there are 8 different kinds of love? In Ancient Greece they had 8 words for the many types of love we experience in our lifetime. February naturally makes people think about romantic love, or “eros”. But there’s also ‘philia’ for deep friendship love, ‘storge’ for the familiar love between parents and children or childhood friends, and ‘philautia’ or “self-love”.
