Girl Scouts of Suffolk County's CIT program is a unique leadership opportunity for girls entering grades 10-12 who are interested in becoming a camp counselor or a staff member. Application Deadline extended to May 31, 2024.
We offer two different programs:
Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Level 1 Program
This program is for first-time participants who are entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. CITs will get hands-on experience with child development, camper supervision, first aid, camp programming, developing communication skills, and learning to work as a team. They will participate in leadership training and be assigned to camper groups for girls in grades 1-3, under the supervision of camp staff and the leadership team.
CIT Level 1 Program Dates:
- Mandatory Training Dates: June 27th (12 pm-5 pm) & June 28th (9 am-3 pm)
- Mandatory Camper Group Assigned Shifts: July 8-12, 8:30 am-4 pm.
Attendance at all mandatory sessions is required to participate. Upon completion of the program, girls will be awarded the Girl Scout CIT 1 Award and may register for additional weeks at camp to participate as a CIT under the discretion of the camp director.
Program Participation cost is $125 per week. Lunch and a camp uniform shirt are included. Additional fees apply for bus pickup/drop-off.
Counselor-in-Training Level 2 Program
This program is for participants who have completed CIT 1 in a prior camp season and are entering 11th or 12th grade. CITs will engage in leadership training and continue their skills development through a progressive experience in either the day camp or resident camp.
Day Camp:
CITS that select day camp can choose ONE of the following assignments for their week: Assigned to camper groups for girls in grades 1-6 OR Assist program facilitators in facilitating themed activities.
- Mandatory Training Dates: June 27th (12 pm-5 pm) & June 28th (9 am-3 pm)
- Mandatory Camper Group Assigned Shifts: July 8-12, 8:30 am-4 pm.
Attendance at all mandatory sessions is required to participate. Upon completion of the program, girls will be awarded the Girl Scout CIT Level 2 Award and may register for additional weeks at camp to participate as a CIT.
Program Participation cost is $125 per week. Lunch and a camp uniform shirt are included. Additional fees apply for bus pickup/drop-off.
Resident Camp:
CITS that select resident camp will be assigned to the resident camper group for girls in grades 5-6. CITS will participate in BOTH day camp and resident camp activities for the week, including sleeping in camper quarters under the supervision of resident camp counselors and the resident camp director.
- Mandatory Training Dates: June 27th (12 pm-5 pm) & June 28th (9 am-3 pm)
- Mandatory Camper Group Assigned Shifts: July 8-12 (Monday drop off at 8 am-Friday pick up at 5:30 pm)
Attendance at all mandatory sessions is required to participate. Upon completion of the program, girls will be awarded the Girl Scout CIT Level 2 Award and may register for additional weeks at camp to participate as a CIT.
Program Participation cost is $185 per week. All meals and a camp uniform shirt are included. CITS will be responsible for packing items necessary for a one-week overnight stay.
*Upon completion of their program, CIT 2 may register for additional weeks of either day camp or resident camp under the discretion of the camp director.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Girls entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in fall.
- Interest in working with children ages 5-10.
- A positive attitude and interest in helping girls have an amazing, fun summer!
