GSSC COVID-19 Waiver of Liability Form

As we navigate this new normal together, our top priority is safety. Presently, we are announcing that outdoor troop meetings may resume August 17 under very specific conditions.

COVID-19 is an extremely contagious virus that spreads easily in the community. Take all reasonable precautions to limit potential exposure for girls, volunteers, and families. GSSC continues to encourage virtual engagements and troops are strongly encouraged to meet virtually. While our offices remain closed, our Girl Scout Shoppe has curb-side pick-up available.

Leading in-person activities during COVID-19 is optional. Volunteers should first decide if they are comfortable offering in-person troop meetings before proceeding.

At this time, GSSC prohibits indoor Girl Scout meetings or activities, including private homes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at customercare@gssc.us

Beginning August 17, 2020, GSSC troops may meet in-person outdoors with the following criteria:

  • Any in-person troop meeting must follow NYS guidelines as outlined on the New York State website.
  • All girls and volunteers must practice social distancing, wear face coverings (masks), maintain 6-feet distancing of others, and follow safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC on the federal website.

In addition:

  • Meeting Size: Meetings should include groups of 12 girls or less with up to 3 adult leaders who are registered, properly trained, and current on their background check. *If you have more than 12 girls in your troop, GSSC will contact you for approval when you fill out the Outdoor Troop Meeting Request Form.
  • Meeting Duration: Meetings should be an hour or less.
  • Meeting Space: Only outdoor spaces where social distancing can be maintained are permitted for meetings. Obtain advance permission from the property owner or the jurisdiction that provides the location. Meetings in private backyards are prohibited.
  • Personal Contact: Hugs, handshakes, “high-fives,” and even activities like the friendship circle or squeeze can transmit COVID-19 from person to person. Refrain from these gestures for the time being. Create a safe way for girls and volunteers to greet and end meetings.
  • Food and Beverage: Food should not be served. If girls wish to bring a water bottle, please make sure the bottle is labeled with their names.
  • First Aid Supplies: Troop first aid supplies should include COVID-19 prevention items including hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol), tissues, disposable facemasks, and disinfectants. Trash baskets or bags should be supplied for meeting spaces, if not already available. Make sure that the trash baskets (or bags) are easily accessible. Disposable or no-contact thermometers may be added to supplies if available and are not cost-prohibitive. However, parents should be checking temperatures and allowing their girl(s) to join group activities only when temperatures are normal (the same guidance applies to volunteers).
  • Volunteers and Families: Leaders should share these guidelines with troop families and make a collaborative decision with families based on comfort level, accessibility, and desired level of engagement.
    • Volunteers and families should assess their ability to comply with required guidelines. For example, younger girls may find it difficult to remain socially distant and/or wear masks. If girls cannot comply with guidelines, troop activities should remain virtual at this time.
  • Transportation: Individual parents drop off and pick up their own girls from meetings. Carpooling is prohibited. Public transportation should be avoided, where possible, to maintain social distancing. Parents or caregivers should wait in or at their car or in the area outside of the troop meeting space. Tagalongs are prohibited.
  • Pre-screening questions before attending each Girl Scout meeting or event:
    • Have you or anyone in your household (persons with whom you live) traveled either domestically or internationally over the past three weeks? If yes, which location(s) did you visit and which airports did you travel through?
    • Check the NYS website for quarantine requirements for anyone who has recently traveled out of state
    • Have you or anyone with whom you live experienced any of the following symptoms within the past two weeks?
    • Have you or anyone with whom you live experienced any of the following symptoms over the past 24 hours? To your knowledge, have you been in close, sustained contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) with anyone showing any of the  above-referenced symptoms, or anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 (Coronavirus)?
    • Please click the links above or visit the CDC’s federal website at for COVID-19 symptoms
    • Volunteers should include these questions in each email confirmation they send to parents for meetings and events.
  • Outdoor Troop Meeting Approval: Leaders must submit an Outdoor Troop Meeting Request Form 10 days prior to meeting. Confirmation will be sent within 5 business days.
  • *Council facilities available for outdoor Troop Meetings beginning October 1. Submit a request form here.*
  • GSSC COVID-19 Waiver of Liability Form

To Our Leaders, Volunteers, Parents, and Caregivers:

Girl Scouts of Suffolk County is committed to the safety and well-being of our girls, volunteers and staff.  With the onset of coronavirus (COVID-19), we are taking precautions and appropriate measures to ensure that girls and volunteers have a safe and one-of-a-kind experience at Girl Scouts. These precautions are as follows:

Events
The following events will be postponed: (Last updated April 3, 2020)

If you have already registered for one of these events and are not able to attend the new date, we will offer full refunds. Please email customercare@gssc.us if you’d like to request a refund.

Facilities
GSSC has always embraced the highest standards of health safety and cleanliness. We have implemented several new polices, at all our locations, which follow recommendations from the U.S Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Suffolk County Health Department. These steps include:

  • Disinfecting commonly touched surfaces such as door knobs, hand rails, tables, countertops and desks with bleach cleaner or equivalent several times per day;
  • Disinfection of exits, entrances and highly trafficked areas with a bleach solution  or equivalent several times per day;
  • Posting articles and posters in conspicuous areas for all our constituents regarding coronavirus and steps you can take to ward off illness;
  • Educating staff, volunteers and all constituents about what we are doing to help keep our facilities as clean and sanitary as possible;
  • Encouraging staff, volunteers and all constituents who feel ill to stay home and consult a medical professional.

Programs and Trainings

  • GSSC will continue to run girl programs and adult trainings as scheduled unless noted otherwise;
  • At the opening of the program, girls will have time to wash their hands thoroughly, following the CDC guide of washing hands properly.
  • We urge parents and caregivers  to use their discretion as to whether they are comfortable with their Girl Scout attending a program;
  • If you have registered for a program or training but are uncomfortable with attending due to coronavirus concerns, GSSC will issue a full refund. Please email customercare@gssc.us if you’d like to request a refund;
  • If you or your Girl Scout is exhibiting signs of illness, such as fever, cough, vomiting, etc., please refrain from attending any Girl Scout programs or events and consult a medical professional.

Booth Sales

  • For the Booth Sale weekend of March 14-15: if your troop needs to postpone its booth sale, you can reschedule and still receive the Lemon Ups  patch.
  • Beginning the week of March 16, we will be distributing non-latex disposable gloves when you pick up your cookies for handling transactions at booth sales.
  • Some businesses have cancelled booth sales. We can try to help you find another location at a later date. Please email us at customercare@gssc.us.
  • Your health and safety are our top priority. We want you to do what’s right for you and your troop. We encourage everyone to follow CDC and other state and local agency recommendations.
